Counselling Sessions - an Overview

RASASC Counselling Room
One of our counselling rooms

The Rape And Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) is a UK Registered Charity based in Guildford, Surrey, founded in 1992 to help male and female survivors of rape or sexual abuse. Clients can talk to us in confidence using our Phone Helpline or through attending our counselling sessions.

Counselling is the process of assisting and guiding clients to resolve problems and difficulties. It enables people affected by the trauma of rape or sexual abuse to come to terms with what has occurred. Any man or woman over the age of 16 affected by rape or sexual abuse and in need of counselling can ask to attend a RASASC counselling session. These are held at various times and locations on different days according to the type of counselling required.

RASASC offers three types of counselling: Individual Sessions with clients on a one-to-one (ie. face-to-face) basis, Support Sessions for partners and/or close family relatives, and full courses of same-sex Self-Help Group Meetings. Upon a request for counselling we arrange to meet the person for an initial assessment, so as to determine whether or not counselling is likely to prove helpful at this point in time.

Fully Trained Counsellors

At RASASC we employ only experienced counsellors and psychotherapists who have a minimum qualification of a BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) Diploma in Counselling and 100 hours general counselling experience. All of our counsellors are BACP or UKCP registered and the agency abides by the BACP Code of Standards and Ethics.

Relational Counselling (in One-to-One or Group)

We adopt a relational approach to counselling; this means that the only issues discussed during a session are those which are raised by the client. The counsellor will be non-directive, and the client will choose what she/he wants to talk about. Please note however that there may be a waiting list for sessions, depending on the current availability of counsellors.

If you have counselling needs that you wish to discuss please call our Helpline.

Strict confidentiality is maintained at all times.
