RASASC Bike Ride 2011RASASC's 2nd SPONSORED BIKE RIDE (plus BBQ)
Bike ride entrant numbers are limited, and therefore pre-registration is required. 10am start from a private house (tba) in Woking (where plenty of car parking). Route mainly follows the Basingstoke Canal towpath north-east to the River Wey and then beside the River Thames towards London, with pitstops at The Minnow in Weybridge, Bushey Park opp. Hampton Bridge, The White Cross at Richmond Bridge and The Boathouse at Putney Bridge. Returning either by van transport (tba) or by train from Clapham Junction (where might have to carry bikes up/down flights of steps). Estimated finishing time is late afternoon. Back in Woking at the end of the event, a congratulatory BBQ will be held. Entry conditions: Pre-registration (but no entry fee), and minimum sponsorship of £50 required. Contact our office to discuss entry, or see our "2011 Bike Event Info Pack" to be issued soon with full details, route map, Sponsorship Form and Booking Form etc. Bike Ride Update / Outcome The 2011 event was another great success, with participation by 16 sponsored riders and 5 other volunteers providing backup (with emergency transport, bike repairs etc). A full report will be available soon. Meanwhile early indications are that the event has raised £1500-£2000 for RASASC. Many thanks to all who took part and all who supported our riders. |
Our previous Bike Event (2010)RASASC organised its first Sponsored Bike Ride in 2010 after several years of holding an Annual Charity Gliding Day. On 21 June 2010, ten fundraising cyclists set off from Bramley Old Railway Station (south of guildford) and cycled 32 miles along the Downs Link trail to the Bax Castle Pub (near Horsham) and back, to raise £1,515 for our charity.
