Guildford Charity Walk 2011

Guildford Annual 10km Charity Walk - New Route!
Rotary Club Logo Sunday 8th May 2011, starts/ends at Shalford Park, Guildford

Pleasant 10km (6 mile) walk organised by Guildford Rotary Club and supported by Surrey Advertiser. Walk takes 2½ to 4hrs to complete, depending on whether you want to rush or not. Free to enter (each sponsored entrant being responsible for collecting and forwarding their sponsorship money to their chosen charity).

New route for 2011 now avoiding St Martha's Hill. 9.45am start from Shalford Park (where free car parking, toilets and refreshments), south alongside the River Wey to Shalford, then along the old ex-railway track south-east to Bramley & Wonersh Old Station, then west across Bramley Golf Course and past Farley Hill to rejoin the River Wey near Farncombe, returning north along the river path through Peaslake back to the start. Sponsorship forms are stamped at two checkpoints en route (where more refreshments wil be available). Walkers with dogs welcome. Unsuitable for wheelchairs/baby buggies. More information at www.guildfordrotary.co.uk/pages/walk.html including downloadable route map and sponsorship forms.

You can walk for RASASC solo, or with family and friends, or ring our office to put your name down for a team/group entry. Join us – it’s a great way to spend a Sunday morning in May outdoors.

Sonja - AGM09   Walk update:   Sonja, our Mgmt. Coordinator, is entering this year hoping to raise £1,000 towards the cost of our having to relocate our office. You can sponsor Sonja's walk at www.mycharitypage.com/Sonja4RASASC.

guildford Walk 2011 - RASASC's sponsored walkers Outcome: Sponsored walkers Gill, Sonja, Janice and Andy at a Walk checkpoint (May 2011) wearing RASASC's new fundraising tee-shirts.

EVENT OUTCOME:   A group of four RASASC fundraisers (Sonja, Andy, Janice and Gill) completed the 2011 Walk on May 8 in three hours to raise over £600 so far towards the cost of our having to relocate our office. Those wishing to show their appreciation can still sponsor Sonja's achievement via www.mycharitypage.com/Sonja4RASASC until June.

Previous walk participation (2009)

Our dedicated voluntary webmaster Peter (from Woking) walked the old route east, along and then over the North Downs (ie. Shalford - Wonersh Common - Blackheath - St Martha's - Chantries - Shalford) for RASASC in May 2009.

His sponsored walk raised £140, and he wrote warmly in our June 2009 newsletter about the whole experience of the walk and of being a first-time fundraiser.
