Our Helpline ServiceThe RASASC telephone helpline is staffed by trained female volunteers who welcome calls from both female and male survivors of rape or sexual abuse - as well as calls from their friends, family, partners or anyone who has concerns about recent or past sexual violence. Survivors of sexual abuse often find it hard to share their feelings at first. In such situations, even their own loved ones can find it difficult to empathise (the ability to mentally identify with, and so fully comprehend, a person's feelings). Usually it's easier to talk to a skilled helper - someone who can be relied upon to listen carefully and sympathetically, without making judgements. Our helpline volunteer staff are dedicated individuals who have time to listen and provide a thoughtful and confidential service. All of our helpline listeners have been through our in-house training course (including 2 months of formal training and 3 months of supervised experiential training on the helpline). They can give advice on police procedures, medical implications, suitable referral agencies, other useful organisations and information websites or, when needed, are able to just listen. Strict confidentiality is maintained at all times. Call our Helpline number for assistance with any matters of a personal concern or crisis nature. Otherwise contact our office if you wish to offer voluntary help or have any query of a professional or public nature related to rape and sexual abuse survival.
