Support us by using Gift Aid!What is Gift Aid?Gift Aid is an HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) tax reclamation scheme worth an extra 28p to us for every pound you donate. If you’re a UK tax payer, any donation you make to RASASC is also eligible for Gift Aid. Our calculator (right) will show you the difference it makes - enter a donation amount and you’ll see how much extra we would receive if you "Gift Aid it...". Remember Gift Aid will cost you nothing - it’s money you’ve already paid in tax that you can't get back, which we can reclaim from the government with your permission. Gift Aid is important to RASASC: It doesn’t matter how small you might feel your gift is - the accumulative effect of lots of tiny Gift Aid sums really does make a big difference.
No Gift Aid declaration form? Just write (with any donation) your full name and home address, saying you’re a UK tax payer and would like RASASC (Guildford) to claim Gift Aid on your donation. Or call our office and we’ll send a form to you. One form can cover every gift made to RASASC for whatever period you choose, and can cover gifts you have already made and/or gifts you may make in the future. Remember Gift Aid will cost you nothing – it’s just an extra bonus amount we can claim from your income tax already paid, that the government will otherwise keep for other uses. We don’t need to know any of your tax details – we only need your permission to claim Gift Aid on your behalf. |
Gift Aid CalculatorIncludes Higher Tax Earners' InformationThe calculator form below shows how much extra value a "Gift Aided" donation is worth, and also shows how a 'higher rate tax payer' can claim higher rate tax relief against the difference between the higher rate of tax (40% and/or 50%) and the basic rate of tax (20%) on the total 'gross' value of a donation to RASASC. Note: The usually quoted Gift Aid figure of "28p for every pound" can be misleading: Gift Aid is derived from multiplying a donation (D) by the basic rate tax (BTR) divided by 100% minus the basic tax rate (BRT). Before tax rate changes in April 2008 this equalled 28p per pound donated but it has equalled 25p per pound donated since 2008. However the government will give charities "Transitional Relief" of an additional 3p in the pound from April 2008 until April 2011.
HMRC guidance on "Giving to charity through Gift Aid" can be read at www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/giving/gift-aid.htm. Among other sources, www.tax-effective-giving.org.uk has a good explanation.
