Support RASASC by Volunteering

Become A Helpline Volunteer

Volunteer assistance is always needed. Are you a good listener? Can you spare 2½ hours on one evening, approximately once every 3 weeks? We run a course of in-house training sessions for new voluntary helpers twice a year.

Initial training takes approximately six weeks, followed by three months of supervised Helpline volunteering. Ongoing support is given, and once fully trained there are additional workshops throughout the year to complement the knowledge and work being undertaken. No prior experience or qualifications are necessary, but references will be required and we shall need to perform an enhanced CRB check at the start of your training.

We are very supportive, dedicated group of people. If you are interested in more information about becoming a helpline volunteer please contact our office by phone or e-mail, or download the Job Description and Application Form documents below.

Download a Helpline Volunteer Job Description (93KB) and a Helpline Volunteer Application Form (103KB) here.

Become a Volunteer Counsellor

Further RASASC counsellors are needed for our Guildford sessions during working daytimes and also on Monday and Wednesday evenings. To be a counsellor you must have a Diploma in Counselling and be BACP registered, and have a minimum of 100 hours general counselling experience. Please note that, due to the nature of our work, we are unfortunately unable to offer temporary placements for those seeking to extend their counselling experience.

To apply for a position as a voluntary counsellor, please send your CV to our Counselling Co-ordinator at our office address (by post or e-mail). References will be required as an enhanced CRB check will be made.

Become an Admin or Fundraising Volunteer

We often need help in the RASASC office with general administration related to running the charity and helping to plan and prepare fundraising events. This work can be as varied as telephoning, internet research, addressing envelopes, photocopying, updating computer records, replacing collecting boxes... If you have general office experience and/or general fundraising experience, or are just happy to muck in, then please contact our office (by post, e-mail or telephone). If you have past experience of applying for grants and funding applications we would also like to hear from you.

Management Committee Advisors & Trustees Sought

Management Chairs April 2009: Following the resignation due to other work commitments of two trustees, we are seeking further advisors and Trustees to join our Management Committee. The Committee works to ensure good practice in the running of RASASC and to further improve services and raise public awareness of rape and sexual abuse. The time commitment required is attendance at monthly evening meetings (2 hrs), plus the completion of any additional tasks between meetings (approx 2-6 hours per week). These are unpaid appointments, but travel and expenses incurred in the role(s) can be reimbursed. Candidates must have a mature, responsible and reliable attitude towards the work to be undertaken, and will ideally have a background in either project management, counselling, law, human resources or public relations.

If interested in becoming a RASASC Management Committee Advisor or Trustee, please contact our office for an application form or send a CV and covering letter. Alternatively for more information about the nature and requirements of the role(s) please contact our office to request a discussion.
